StepBet alternatives for UK users (2026)

StepBet sets personal weekly step targets and asks players to pay into a game; those who hit their targets share the money. It is on the UK App Store, but people in the UK often ask whether it is worth it, what it keeps and what else is available. This page sets out the facts we checked on 20 October 2026 and the alternatives worth considering.

What StepBet does, in its own words

  • Games run in week-long blocks. StepBet sets two targets from your tracker history, an “Active” goal and a harder “Power” goal, and each week you must hit them on a set number of days.
  • Supported trackers: Apple Health, Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin and Google Health Connect. Steps cannot be entered manually.
  • StepBet keeps 15% of the money paid into non-member games; in member-only games it keeps nothing. The FAQ says most games cost $40 to enter.
  • Money due to you is paid as StepBet points, which you can use in later games or cash out through PayPal. You can get a full refund until day 7 of a game.
  • The UK App Store listing is rated 18+ and offers memberships from £10.49. StepBet’s FAQ says availability depends on your location and can be withdrawn where local rules change.

How to choose

  1. 01

If steps are the whole goal

StepBet’s targets are set for you from your tracker history, which takes the guesswork out. FitBond also supports step goals, but you choose the number.

  2. 02

If your goal is the gym

StepBet does not count gym visits. FitBond can verify a gym visit by your phone’s location at a named gym, with a minimum time per visit.

  3. 03

If you would rather not pay at all

Strava’s social features or a friend acting as referee on stickK give you accountability without money. For many people that is enough.

  4. 04

If you want to do it with someone

FitBond’s Head to Head and Team Bonds are built for two people or a group. Read our guide to gym accountability partner apps for the options.
